Does Networking Stress You Out?

November 3, 2016

Insider Tip
Face-to-face networking can be stressful.  For that reason many people now prefer to network through social media. Virtual networking is good, however in-person networking can be more valuable for making professional contacts and longstanding relationships. If networking in person makes you anxious try volunteering at a specific event that offers an opportunity to work on a team with a common purpose rather than having to strike up a conversation by yourself.  You’d be surprised at the connections you can make working together in a group. Or if you are really shy, even better, network with a friend. Research suggests that social media, while fast and expeditious, does not compare to personal face-to-face connections.
